Empowering Voices: Women in Bloodstock Event Celebrated Leadership, Passion and Progress.

Women In Racing Ireland proudly hosted an inspiring event at Tattersalls Fairyhouse on Tuesday 11th November. The Women in Bloodstock event featuring Shirley Anderson-Jolag, brought together trailblazers, professionals, and enthusiasts from across the bloodstock and racing industries. The evening celebrated the achievements, resilience, and growing influence of women in all facets of the sport, from the sales ring to the racetrack.

Hosted at the iconic Tattersalls Ireland sales complex, the event featured a distinguished panel of speakers: Shirley Anderson-Jolag (Tattersalls Auctioneer & Bloodstock Sales), Orla McKenna (Tattersalls Ireland, Bloodstock), and Michelle Fogarty (Weatherbys, Bloodstock Operations Manager), with Laura Magee (CEO Horse Country) serving as the evening’s engaging Master of Ceremonies. Before the talk the popular 2026 WINR Mentoring Programme was officially launched with an overview from committee members Vicki McWey, Siobhan Griffin with an insight of what it is like to be a Mentor from Rachel Annan. Expressions of Interest were sought from both Mentors and Mentees and everyone was encouraged to sign up via the website www.womeninracing.ie/winr-mentoring-programme

Each speaker shared their personal journey within the racing industry, offering candid insights into their professional experiences, challenges, and triumphs. The discussion highlighted the importance of mentorship, representation, and recognising opportunities when they present themselves.

“Events like this are vital in showcasing the diverse roles women play within our industry — not just as participants, but as leaders, innovators, and driving forces behind its continued success,” said Nessa Joyce, WINR Chair.

Earlier in the day WINR members participated in three workshops offerings a behind the scenes peek into the workings of a sales day. They heard perspectives from consignors, purchasers, an auctioneer and how much time and expertise is needed to prepare a catalogue for a sale. To round off the evening Shirley took charge of the room to auction off a hamper of Tattersalls Ireland merchandise, mouthwatering Festival race day tickets for upcoming NH meetings at Navan, Fairyhouse, Punchestown and Leopardstown and a copy of the just published Return of Mares book. Bidding was brisk and gave everyone a taste of a live auction with bids coming from all corners of the room. The successful final bid of EUR 220 was from Michelle Motherway of Beyond The Silks Podcast and all proceeds will be donated to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.
